Good Morning! On September 15, 1954, Wilhelmina Harvey — wife of Key West Mayor C.B. Harvey — christened the Cuban ferry City of Key West in Miami. The converted landing ship was built for daytime automobile service between Key West and Cárdenas, Cuba, and began that run in October, when driving across the Gulf Stream still felt like the natural next hop for Conchs and Florida tourists. On September 15, 1883, the Key West City Commission elected Alfred R. Monsalvatage mayor to fill the unexpired term of William McClintock, who had resigned to take a post at the Custom House. (Keys Libraries)

Brickell Pile Rig Collapses; Four Hospitalized, No Fatalities
An 85-foot pile/drill rig toppled about 8 a.m. Monday at Brickell Bay Drive and Southeast 12th Street onto a construction Conex box and three vehicles — including a white BMW whose driver reversed as the rig fell, then escaped out the back as the hood caught fire — and Miami Fire Chief Robert Hevia said all four injured (operator, two trapped workers ages 29 and 27, and the driver) had minor injuries (NBC 6).
Video showed one worker hugging a firefighter after Jaws of Life crews cut open the box; Related Companies said the rig fell at 1201 Brickell (Citadel HQ site), damaged three cars and a shed, and that OSHA and city/county building departments are investigating; all 18 workers on site were accounted for (WSVN).
Orlando Set to Approve Permanent Pulse Memorial Design

Mayor Buddy Dyer has called finishing the memorial his most important remaining goal; an earlier nonprofit memorial-and-museum effort dissolved in 2023, and city materials project construction starting after design lock with completion aimed for late 2027 (City of Orlando Pulse process).
